ALL POWER TO QUEER MONSTERS
What if queer bodies returned to the Earth instead of social assimilation?
Alex will, as part of their residency, examine the potential of political radicalism of "queering" in the fields of identity, ecology and activism. Their passion for the horror genre and solar punk imagination of the future will also hit the questions of what is natural and how to reclaim the notion of a monster. Queer monstrosity as liberation from the rigid frameworks of assimilation and obedience, represents a pivotal point of Alex's artistic research and "queering" their relationship to the landscape.
Alex in their research proceeds from the theory of Queer Ecologies, nonhuman agenda, Slav folklore and queer reading of horror works. In their practice the artist draws on their conviction that it may be difficult to imagine end of capitalism through heteropatriarchyal lenses, yet, quite paradoxically, there is the potential in marginalised groups and minorities who are used to live as if no future was ever meant for them, and who are able to dream different visions. That is why in their search for answers Alex turns to mythological narratives and speculative fiction, believing that stories are the most efficient way of understanding.
Alex develops their practice in the medium of moving images, installation, performance or virtual reality, while striving to expand the possibilities of each medium by searching for new approaches and strategies.
