ABOUT

INI Project is an independent platform active in the field of contemporary art since 2010. The project is characterized by its search for unconventional formats of presentation and support. Since 2013, its flagship project has been Prostor, originally located in the Bubenké 1 building in Letná (known as "Orco"). The space, which resembled a studio rather than a classic gallery, hosted dozens of artists, critics, theorists, and art groups and duos. During their two-month residencies, a series of performances, pop-up exhibitions, author readings, research projects, workshops, and other events focused on the process of creating new works or developing ideas in progress, rather than the final product, took place here. Due to the reconstruction of the original building and the need to open the program more to the public, INI Project / Prostor moved to the commercial parterre on the corner of Husitská and Jeronýmova streets. Prostor continues to function as a residential studio—in cooperation with residents, we want to continue to showcase the creative process and activities that take place before the finished work is exhibited or in parallel with the author's exhibition or theoretical activities. Within Prostor, artists and curators can share their current projects with the public, invite guests who inspire them, and freely transform the space into a workshop, study, office, or kitchen, for example. Thanks to its new location, Prostor is much more open to the surrounding events and is becoming part of the "gallery district" in Žižkov, home to Galerie 35m2, Drdova Gallery, Hunt Kastner, and other organizations.

INI Project is also a partner project of the educational initiative UMA: You Make Art. Until 2023, it was also a co-organizer of the Věra Jirousová Award for emerging and established critics of contemporary art. Within the framework of these projects, we focus primarily on the process of artistic creation, its critical reflection, and its mediation to a wider audience. We strive to be an open initiative that operates locally and draws on the local art scene, but at the same time has the broadest possible disciplinary, geographical, and social reach.

The activities of INI Project, z.s. in 2025 are realised with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic, and the City of Prague.
