Věra Jirousová Award is designed for young emerging as well as already established visual art critics. Its aim is to highlight an important and in the Czech environment still scarcely reflected discipline, promote the emerging authors and help them find opportunities to publish their texts. At the same time it is our wish to point out the works of such authors who have been actively moving in the realm of art criticism for quite some time, thus co-creating our cultural environment.

The competition format: It should help identify talented emerging art critics, in case of the other category, i.e. the already established authors, apart from explicit appreciation of respective personalities who have developed the field of art criticism in a distinctive way, it is our aim to point out the variety of approaches and possibilities embodying art criticism of today.

We try to motivate more authors as well as provide the active art critics with a chance to reflect upon their work, not only by granting the award itself, but also by offering a rich accompanying program, which we organize for each year of Věra Jirousová Award.
