Tamara Moyzes, Shlomi Yaffe
Violated borders

During the term of their residency artists will investigate the notion of Patriarchy and how it derives from the ideology of Familialism in Western and Middle Eastern societies.

In the European context, they will focus on the recent election campaigns in the Czech Republic, where one can witness the rise of the indication of family values, related to the Traditional Family. They will examine the status quo of the local female presentation within these campaigns, in contrast to the imagery of the foreign one, and how both are being exploited by the patriarchal politic from the perspective of both left and right wings.

In the Middle Eastern context, the artists will concentrate on the status quo of the Israeli females of Palestinian descent as a case study, who are being harmed both by Israeli racism and the Palestinian domestic violence.

During their residency, the artists will join forces with the OPU NGO in order to open a discussion regarding the European Asylum System and what are the existing legislative instruments to provide asylum to Muslim women who could be seriously harmed in their country of origin, especially those who are threatened by the ‘Honor Killing’.

5th October 6 PM Ilana Salama Ortar - Artist Talk

We cordially invite you for the artist talk by Ilana Salama Ortar. Born in Alexandria in the early 1950s, Salama Ortar and her family were forced to leave Egypt with a one-way ticket (laissez-passer). On the way to Israel. They passed through a transit camp in Marseille known as the Jewish camp — a scar anchored in her memory — which increased her sensitivity to the Israeli-Palestinian geopolitical conflict and to the rejection status of older Algerian immigrant women in Marseille. These two conflicts will be highlighted in the current talk.

The Project could be implemented thanks to the financial support of the Czech Ministry of Culture, the State Cultural Fund, a grant from the City of Prague and IFA.
